Educating
In 1984, FLM Haiti opened its first four literacy centers. Over the years, the organization has grown to support more than 70 government-certified literacy centers across 11 communities. These centers, staffed by 103 dedicated educators, provide instruction in arithmetic, reading, and writing. Each year, up to 3,000 Haitians benefit from these literacy programs, with 1,256 graduating annually from FLM Haiti’s two-year program. Since its inception, more than 11,000 individuals have received certifications of literacy.
In recent years, FLM Haiti expanded its impact by establishing L’ecole Mixte Devese Pamphile, a kindergarten-through-grade-13 school in Thomassin. This school provides quality education to both girls and boys from the local community, furthering FLM Haiti’s mission to empower individuals through education.
FLM Haiti also provides service that empowers Haitians by working not only with their intellectual gifts, but also with their creative talents. Recently, FLM Haiti launched a sewing ministry -- a micro-enterprise where the primary goal is to establish a “sewing café,” where graduates from the sewing school can support and train others. In addition, the women get public health lessons in anatomy, healthy pregnancy, first aid, children’s literacy, and lessons in marketing/business.
